In Norse mythology, the Æsir are associated with war, power, and governance. Prominent members of the Æsir were Thor, Baldr, Týr and and they were led by Odin. They are central figures in the prophecy of Ragnarok, the apocalyptic end of the world.
When the Reykjanes peninsula in Iceland erupted in 2022, I trekked the long way to witness the volcano site. The legend of the Æsir came to life before my eyes, as the heat of the lava and the rumble in the ground gave indications of the old gods awakening again.
